Hot Air Weldable Membrane
Roof Technology
Hot Air Weldable
Membrane Roofing Systems are based on a thermal-plastic polyolefin(TPO) compound of ethylene and
propylene.
The result is a hot-air weldable membrane offering the best
performance characteristics of both EDPM rubber and PVC, but
without the limitations of either. In short order, the Hot Air
Weldable Membrane has defined the TPO roofing industry and is
the most widely installed type of TPO roofing in the world.
Hot Air Weldable Membrane an environmentally friendly roofing
membrane that provides outstanding weatherability, fire and
chemical resistance, strong reliable seams, and no plasticizers
to leach out and embrittle the membrane.
Available in black, white, gray, and colors, Hot Air Weldable
Membranes provide superb value at a competitive price.
STRONG RELIABLE, HOT-AIR WELDED SEAMS
Hot-air welding has long been recognized as the
strongest, most reliable seaming method in the single-ply
industry. Literally fusing the top and bottom sheets together,
hot-air welding creates one homogeneous bond that can be made as
strong as the membrane itself. Hot-air welded seams can be:
Adhesive seams are subject to contamination and
degradation from a variety of rooftop conditions - even water.
Thus, the weatherability benefit in EPDM membranes is often
offset by exposure-related seam failures.
In contrast, Hot Air Weldable Membrane weathers as well as EPDM
and has the seam strength advantages of hot-air-welding,
including a year round installation capability, when compared to
liquid adhesive-seamed systems which cannot be installed in cold
weather.
In addition, Hot Air Weldable Membrane contains no plasticizers
and therefore does not suffer any of the problems associated
with the plasticizer migration or membrane shrinkage that some
PVC membranes have experienced.
REINFORCED
All
Hot Air Weldable Membrane Roofing Systems are reinforced with a
high-strength, polyester reinforcing scrim for added strength
and durability. This gives Hot Air Weldable Membrane:
- 5 times the tear strength of reinforced EPDM.
- 2.5 times the breakage strength of reinforced EPDM (225
lbs. Vs. 90 lbs.)
- Equal or superior ASTM physical property test results when
compared to reinforced black rubber membranes.
- 45 mil (1.14mm) Hot Air Weldable Membrane provides the
same puncture resistance as some 48 and 60 mil (1.22 and
1.52mm) PVC's.
- 60 mil (1.52mm) Hot Air Weldable Membrane provides nearly
twice the puncture resistance as some 60 and 90 mil (1.52 and
2.44mm) PVC's.
- 45 mil (1.14mm) Hot Air Weldable Membrane has twice the
tear strength of some 48 mil (1.22mm) PVC's.
ENERGY SAVINGS

A white Hot Air Weldable Membrane Roofing System reflects the
sun's heat and can thereby help to reduce air-conditioning
costs.
MAINTENANCE REPAIR
Hot Air Weldable Membrane Roofing Systems are
engineered to require minimal maintenance. Should damage occur,
Hot Air Weldable Membrane Roofing Systems can be easily
repaired.
WALKWAY ROLL
Hot
Air Weldable Membrane Walkway Roll is designed to minimize the
abrasion and mechanical damage to roof membranes caused by
rooftop traffic. The walkway roll is manufactured with the same
unique TPO formula used for Hot Air Weldable Membrane Roofing
System and offers durability, weatherability, ease-of-use and
the strength of hot air welded seams. Hot Air Weldable Membrane
Walkway Roll can be installed over either 45- or 60-mil EP
membrane.
FIRE RESISTANCE MEETS CRITICAL UL AND FM
REQUIREMENTS
Most
Hot Air Weldable Membrane Roofing Systems have achieved UL Class
A fire resistance classifications (UL 790) at slopes equal or
superior to all standard and most fire resistant EPDM sheets: ?
in. (19mm) slope over most isocyanurates, up to 1-in. (25.4mm)
over selected iso boards, and unlimited slope over gypsum.
Consult the current UL Roofing Materials & Systems Directory
(where Hot Air Weldable Membrane is listed as a TPO) for a
complete listing of ratings. Mechanically attached Hot Air
Weldable Membrane has achieved Factory Mutual Windstorm
Classification Rating of 1-60, 1-90, 1-120, 1-135, 1-150, and
1-195. Fully adhered Hot Air Weldable Membrane can achieve 1-180
and 1-270 Windstorm Classifications under specific conditions.
Consult the current FM Approval Guide for a complete
description of all approved assemblies.
